Punggol East Single Member Constituency

Not to be confused with the pre-indepence era ward in Punggol and Hougang areas called as Punggol Member Constituency which was formed prior to 1959 general elections by craving out from a portion of the then defunct Punggol-Tampines SMC which lasted until prior to 1991 general elections when that ward was absorbed into the then defunct Cheng San GRC.

Punggol East Single Member Constituency (Simplified Chinese: 榜鹅东单选区;Traditional Chinese: 榜鵝東單選區) is a Single Member Constituency located in the north-eastern area of Singapore. The ward covers the eastern area of Sengkang. This ward has been carved out during the 2011 General Election and was formerly a ward from the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC. The current MP is Michael Palmer.

3 cornered fight on the ward's debut in 2011 General Elections

In the 2011 general elections, this ward was the only ward to have a 3 cornered fight, not seen since the 2001 general elections in the then Bukit Timah SMC. Desmond Lim of the Singapore Democratic Alliance secured a mere 4.45% of the votes in Punggol East SMC, against PAP's Michael Palmer and Workers' Party of Singapore's Lee Lilian, which is the lowest percentage of votes a candidate has gotten in the 2011 election. As a result, he was the only candidate in that particular election to have his election deposit forfeited.
